There’s no denying our makeup habits have changed over the last year. Although we may still wear the occasional statement eye or bold lip, those of us who still wear makeup have by and large adopted a much more low-key look. And while most will say their Zoom makeup routine has pared down to just “concealer and mascara,” many have adopted an even more minimal option: clear mascara.

“Clear mascara is a softer alternative to your standard black and brown mascaras,” says celebrity makeup artist Min Min Ma. “It gives a nice definition to your lashes without weighing them down. It also gives your lashes a nice sheen, which is especially pretty during the spring and summer time when the makeup tends to be more natural and glowy."

Unlike regular mascara, a clear formula can also be used beyond the lashline. “Another way I like to use clear mascara is on the eyebrows,” explains Ma. “Again, it gives definition to each hair while setting the brows in place.” Think of it as a sub for your go-to brow gel. “You can use it on its own or in combination with your usual brow products,” says the makeup pro. Oh, and got a rogue flyaway? Try swiping it on in place of hair gel.
